Southwell Minster - Places to Visit in Nottinghamshire

Photo of Inside Southwell Minster in Nottinghamshire, UKThe small town of Southwell is a nice place to visit anyway but the Minster is the centre piece. Southwell Minster is a minster and a cathedral, located in the town of Southwell in North Nottinghamshire, 14 miles north east of Nottingham.

It is the seat of the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham. Southwell Minster is considered to be a great example of Norman and Early English architecture.
The distinctive pyramidal spires of lead (or 'pepperpot'), the only example of their kind in the UK, uniquely overlap the footprint of the tower walls and are particularly noteworthy.

It's a nice, calm place to visit for a couple of hours. Entrance is free for visitors and the insides are wonderful, especially the 'light' through the large stained glass windows. There's a small cafe and shop within the grounds.
