Nowadays Sherwood isn't really one large forest but a collection of smaller forests, woods and parks, like - Clumber Park, Newstead Abbey, Rufford Park and The Major Oak visitor center and park.
Natural places of interest nearer the city center include Wollaton Park, Nottingham University Park (High Fields), Greens Windmill and Colwick Park. A large section of the River Trent runs through Nottinghamshire creating many natural beauty spots - Holme Lock, Gunthorpe Lock, Newark on Trent (castle & locks) etc.
