Carsington Water is a very large reservoir located between Matlock and Ashbourne in East Derbyshire, near the wonderfully named village of Knockerdown.
A fairly new reservoir finished in the 1990's. The main car park is quite large and is only a short walk from the waters edge, along flat graveled footpaths. The Visitor Centre has a craft shop and restaurant, there's also an outdoor cafe. Picnic areas with tables are dotted along the footpaths. |
If you're the active type then there's lots to do - canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, cycle hire and an adventure playground for the kids. Even with all this activity, there's still plenty of quiet spots around Carsington Water if you explore a little. Address - Carsington Water Visitor Centre, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
