Filey is a quiet seaside town on the East Yorkshire coast about 5 miles south of Scarborough.
Filey Bay has around 5 miles of sandy beaches, all easily accessed from sea front parking. The area around Scarborough / Filey is slightly less rugged than the villages on the more Northern coast of Yorkshire.
This has allowed some parts of the towns to be built in the space between the beach and the cliffs, making Filey much more easily accessible than the northern fishing villages (see
Staithes).
So, if you don't want to walk up and down steep footpaths, then The Filey Bay area is a good compromise - not too commercial (yet) and not too hilly.
(Tip - gets very busy in the August school holidays, there's plenty of space on the beach but parking becomes a problem.)
