Whatton gardens are a hidden treasure located in north Leicestershire near the Nottinghamshire border. The entrance is off the northbound A6 about 2 miles south of Kegworth.
We visited in early September 2007 on a warm sunny day and were the only people there! Which is good and bad - good because it's just so peaceful and bad because it's a shame more people don't know about this 'secret' garden that's only 15 minutes from Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.
The gardens consist of 15 acres of formal and informal gardens including:- woodland walks, 2 ornamental ponds, ancient trees, expansive lawns, colourful herbaceous borders, rose garden and arboretum.
Entrance fee is £2.50 for adults using an honesty box! (children free).

Access to all areas of the gardens is along fairly flat firm gravel paths, there are a couple of small steps into the rose garden.
These are really lovely gardens in the rolling Leicestershire countryside and they do deserve to get many more visitors.
