Bradgate Park is a large 850 acre country park just to the northwest of Leicester in the East Midlands. The park includes Cropston Reservoir and the River Lin. A large flat tarmac path runs between the two main car parks passing the cafe and toilets. Wide grass paths lead off up into the hilly moorland areas and to the War memorial and Old John Folly, which stand atop two of the highest mounts. The park also has many ancient Oak Trees scattered across the landscape. Deer roam freely through the park and can be see on most days. |
A climb (steep walk) upto the folly called 'Old John' is well worth the effort. This sits on the highest hill in the park, it must be one of the highest points in Leicestershire - the views from the top are great, miles and miles of rugged rolling English Countryside. Entrance to Bradgate park is free, but there is a car parking fee. |
