| Easy access from A66. Best photo spots are probably along the eastern side along the B5289 - although there's no easy parking on this road. There's a steam boat that goes around the lake, stopping at several spots. This allows easy access to the south end of the lake, this provides wide ground level views of the whole lake. |
One of the best views of Derwent water is from Ashness Bridge, a left turn off the B5289 (if going south). This is basically a car park on the top of one of the hills overlooking the lake (see pic above right). Ashness Bridge gives spectacular wide views of the whole of the lake straight from the car park. As an added bonus there's also a stone bridge (Ashness Bridge) with a mountain stream following beneath. On the Google Map, Ashness Bridge is the little white road off the yellow Borrowdale Road. |

UllswaterA loverly long narrow lake in the North East of the Lake District. (i think it's the longest lake in England??)The main road runs all the way along the west side of the lake and has plenty of pull in parking places with easy access to the lake. There's also lots of waterfalls in Cumbria. Moss Force nr Buttermere is an interesting one, with nice open views and less visitors than some of the more famous falls and forces. As with all falls, it's at it's best in Spring and Winter or after a heavy period of Summer rain. (not unknown in the Lake District). |
